LTT x Maggies Barts LGBTIQ+ Online Peer Support Quick Guide

In response to the novel coronavirus Live Through This and Maggies have taken their peer support service online and opted for a more informal networking format. This service is open to any LGBTIQ+ person affected by cancer.

Sessions will run every first Thursday of the month from 3pm-4pm. Sessions are safe and secure.

How to Join with Zoom

When joining a session, you are able to do so as a guest. You will be given the opportunity to enter your name for the session. Please use the name or initials you feel most comfortable with. Feel free to add your pronouns here also.

If you choose to create or already have a Zoom account, these details can be set in the setting web panel and they will be stored between meetings.

During a meeting you have the option to turn your webcam on or off. We respect your choice. Likewise, you can also mute your microphone and choose to type into the conversation via the hosts. You are able to message the hosts directly for support at any time.

You will need to provide basic sign up details to gain access. Do so by completing this short form.

Online Peer Support Ground Rules

  • This video chat is moderated. If you are unable to follow these rules you will be muted. If your behaviour is deemed too disruptive you may be removed from the session.
  • The session is safeguarded. If you display evidence or ideation of self harm or harm to others, we may contact you directly to offer support. You are always welcome to come to us directly with your concerns at any time.
  • Though we typically host physical meetings, this video chat exists to bridge the gap in services during the pandemic.
  • The aim of the group is to provide support through the discussion and sharing of personal experiences. It is intended to build self-esteem and help members make positive new connections with others for discussing their health.
  • Given the nature of peer-support, there may be instances where the moderator may be too unwell to host the chat. In these circumstances a replacement moderator will be arranged or the session postponed. Every effort will be made to notify attendees as soon as possible should this be the case.
  • The intention of this group is to share experiences, not provide solutions.
  • This group is not a clinical information service nor a diagnostic tool. People seeking this kind of information will be guided to more appropriate sources of support.
  • Be mindful and respectful of names and pronouns at all times.
  • All personal information given in the group discussion must not be repeated outside of the group unless express permission is given to do so.
  • Please attempt to keep discussions positive and respectful. Be mindful of any graphic or triggering descriptions that may be upsetting to others and their cancer journey.
  • Always keep yourself safe. Only share information you are comfortable disclosing. This includes any personal or identifiable details.
  • Feel free to leave or take a break at any point in the meeting if you so wish.
  • You have the freedom to choose whether to speak or not.
  • Please allow everyone the opportunity to speak.
  • If you want to speak but are finding it difficult to join in, try using the “raise hand” feature and the host will be sure to include you.
  • You may request a private chat with one of the moderators at any time.
  • Offensive, aggressive or abusive language will not be tolerated.
  • The web chat and comment log are cleared at the end of every session.
